CASTILE LIQUID SOAP
Originating in Spain, Castile soap is a liquid soap base that has been popular in Europe for centuries. Australian Wholesale Oils unscented Liquid Castile Soap is a versatile, ecofriendly, vegetable-based soap, that is completely natural, with no added harsh chemicals or synthetic nasties. It’s also free from any animal derived ingredients and is fully biodegradable.
AWO’s Australian made Liquid Castle Soap is a mixture of potassium oleate, potassium olivate and potassium cocoate that allows for the creation of an almost transparent, ready-to-use liquid soap with the unique ability to be easily thickened using salt.
Castile liquid soap can replace a multitude of everyday products used around the home or office, such as body and hand washes, a base for household cleaners, homemade shampoos, or even for use in the garden (read more below). Being a synthetic detergent free product, it will not produce a large sudsy lather, but it will still clean effectively and generate small suds.

How to use Castile Liquid Soap
There are endless natural recipes using Liquid Castile Soap, but below are just some of our favourite easy DIY recipes using Castile Soap:
-
Natural Hand Wash: In a glass or ceramic pump bottle, combine 240mls of Castile Soap, 15-20 drops of your preferred Essential Oil, and 1 tsp Vitamin E (optional) and mix well. Use as-is, or if you prefer it to be thicker, you can add a little salt solution - Combine 1 part table salt with 4 parts warm water and leave to dissolve for 1 hour. Add the solution 1 tsp at a time to your soap until the desired consistency is achieved.
Tip: Try adding some drops of different essential oils together (maximum 20 drops combined) to create your own personal fragrance! - Natural Foaming Hand Wash: In a foaming pump bottle, combine 2 tbsp Castile Soap, 1 tsp Vitamin E, 500ml Distilled Water & 15-20 drops of your preferred Essential Oil - shake to mix well.
-
Natural Surface Cleaner: In a glass spray bottle, mix 500ml water with 30ml (about 2 tablespoons) of liquid Castile Soap until well combined. Add 15 drops of essential oil of choice – lemon, eucalyptus, peppermint, or lavender are all excellent options for surface cleaners!
-
Natural Bubble Bath: Combine 1 Cup Castile Soap with ¼ Cup vegetable Glycerine and mix well. You can also add 10-15 drops of essential oil (Lavender is perfect for a relaxing bath), however, if using for children, ensure to only use essential oils that are safe for use around children and in smaller amounts.
Things to consider when using Castile Liquid Soap:
- If you have hard water, it will react with castile soap and leave behind a white film residue
- Castile liquid soap does not mix well with vinegar or lemon and will also create a film residue
- Castile tends to have a higher pH, which may be drying with prolonged skin contact
