Published 18th Jan 2023

Boasting a powerhouse of ingredients, Eucalyptus Blue Gum Essential Oil is highly praised in everything from health, skincare, cleaning and more.

Want to know how to use this incredibly versatile oil and the benefits it may bring to your daily routine? Let’s take a closer look.

What Is Eucalyptus Essential Oil?

Eucalyptus Blue Gum Essential Oil is derived from the leaves and stem of the Blue Gum Tree (Eucalyptus globulus) using the steam distillation process. It carries an instantly recognisable natural, cooling and decongesting aroma with a sweet undertone.

Above all, Eucalyptus Oil is renowned for its ability to ward off colds and harmful infections, all while bolstering your body's immune system in the process – no wonder it’s so popular!

6 Benefits Of Eucalyptus Essential Oil

With a unique chemical profile and an array of medicinal uses, Eucalyptus Essential Oil is seen to offer benefits for all aspects of life. Let’s take a look at 6 of them:

1. May Ease Colds And Flus

Without a doubt, one of Eucalyptus Oil’s most highly regarded qualities is its ability to potentially suppress stubborn coughs, colds and congestion. In fact, Eucalyptus Oil is a common ingredient found in many over the counter vapor rubs thanks to its cineole and eucalyptol content.

On top of these benefits, Eucalyptus Oil also naturally contains antiviral and antimicrobial properties known to further assist with fighting viruses and infections.

2. Believed To Be A Great Natural Cleaner

Eucalyptus Oil’s natural antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties and refreshing aroma make it a highly valued essential oil for chemical free cleaning. From adding a few drops to freshen up laundry to disinfecting floors, Eucalyptus Oil is as versatile as it is effective.

Its ability to remove grease and grime also make Eucalyptus Oil ideal for cleaning subborn areas in bathrooms, kitchens, appliances, garages and more.

3. Known To Ease Dandruff And Lice

There’s nothing worse than an itchy, irritated scalp. With anti-fungal and antiseptic properties, Eucalyptus Oil has been seen to combat the root cause of that non-stop scalp itching - pesky head lice and dandruff.

Even better, Eucalyptus Oil also contains anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties that may reduce inflammation on the scalp and stimulate long, healthy locks. Now who doesn’t love that!

4. May Help Relieve Joint Pain

Did you know Eucalyptus Oil is a common ingredient in various over the counter ointments and creams for arthritis? That’s right, Eucalyptus Oil’s natural anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties have been seen to reduce soreness and inflammation associated with joint and muscle pain.

To bolster these claims, a 2013 study found Eucalyptus Oil may reduce the severity of joint pain post-surgery. In fact, patients reported lower levels of pain after inhaling Eucalyptus Oil post total knee replacement surgery.

5. May Promote Clear, Youthful Skin

Looking to help soothe painful, inflamed acne? Eucalyptus Oil is packed with natural antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and antifungal properties that may cleanse and clear acne prone skin.

Even better, one 2011 study revealed that applying a dilution of Eucalyptus Oil to the skin helped improve the skin’s barrier, ceramide production and water retention. Basically, improving the skin’s firmness, elasticity and suppleness – need we say more?

6. May Work As A Natural Insect Repellant

Ever tried to get to sleep at night, only to be kept awake by a buzzing fly or mosquito? Yep, we know the feeling. The chemical composition of Eucalyptus Oil contains cineole, a-pinene and d-limonene, a trifecta known help ward off unwanted insects. Hallelujah!

In fact, one 2012 study revealed that the vapor of Eucalyptus Oil was effective for inhibiting the pupae and larvae of the housefly. The study concluded that Eucalyptus Oil could be a potentially viable option for an eco-friendly housefly control product.

How Do You Know If You Have Quality Eucalyptus Oil?

Want to enjoy pure Eucalyptus Essential Oil packed full of benefits? Then you’ll want to keep an eye out for what defines a 100% pure essential oil from a synthetic blend.

Top 6 Things To Look For

  1. The oils Latin name, in this case Eucalyptus globulus, listed on the bottle. If a product doesn’t have the Latin name listed, it’s probably a mix of synthetic fragrance oils.
  2. Oil packaging is in a dark glass bottle. This will prevent light and heat from damaging the oil.
  3. The label clearly states ‘100% pure Eucalyptus Blue Gum Essential Oil’. This will ensure the product isn’t blended with any other oils.
  4. Be sure to check the expiry date if buying in store
  5. The product clearly states where the oil is from.
  6. Be wary of a very low price. It could be an indicator of low quality or adulterated essential oils.

At AWO, we ethically source our Eucalyptus Blue Gum Essential Oil from China and do not dilute it with any other ingredients. This means you’re getting 100% pure Eucalyptus Blue Gum Essential Oil naturally extracted via steam distillation.

Considerations For Use

To avoid possible skin sensitivity, we always recommend performing a skin patch test prior to using Eucalyptus Essential Oil.

AWO’s Eucalyptus Oil is 100% pure and therefore very concentrated, so we always recommend diluting before using topically. Because they are so potent, essential oils can cause serious harm if ingested without the necessary expertise.

For this reason, you should never ingest essential oils. We also recommend storing your Eucalyptus Essential Oil in a cool, dry place at room temperature, ensuring that they are not directly exposed to sunlight and are out of reach of children or pets.
